Chelsea International Hostel

I had a very disappointing experience with Chelsea International Hostel in NYC. After booking my stay, I ran into some issues and tried to resolve them by calling the hostel directly. I spoke to two different staff members on two separate calls and both experiences were honestly terrible. The customer service was the worst I’ve ever encountered. Neither of them seemed to care about my issue at all. They didn’t try to look into the situation or provide clear information. Instead, it felt like they just wanted to end the call as quickly as possible. On top of that, both employees sounded unprofessional. They were swearing while speaking to me, and their behavior made the situation even more uncomfortable. I genuinely felt like I had to beg just to get basic information about my own booking.

You're getting what you pay for. I stayed for two nights around NYE in a 4 person room and paid around $100 after fees. bathrooms were cleaner than expected, my 3 roommates were normal, and I felt safe leaving my stuff in the room lockers. Only complaint was that the heating in my room was pretty much nonexistent. I didn't realize my bunk was missing a blanket until like 3am and even after I got one, it didn't help. Definitely bring an extra blanket or warm pajamas. other than that, great location, pretty much unbeatable and why I chose this over other hostels.

Pros.|Great location and access to kitchen.Inner garden. Reasonable price. ||Cons:|Me and my husband were asked to pay 2500 dollars in CASH when we arrived. Felt shady. (We refused.)|Unpleasant check in process.( Young guy dark hair with mustache.|Beds are really horrible. Mattress thin and old. Wobbly and Creeky beds. A nightmare.|Many steep stairs. Expect no help with luggage .|The housekeeper one day threw my 100 dollar dress in the garbage! They had to search for it. Came back dirty and full of black curly hair that wasn’t mine.Any Excuse? NO.|Cleaning meaning empty the trashbin. No exchange of towels or bedlinen for the whole week.|No maintenance since first time I stayed here in 2008.||No breakfast included as in the old days.No pizza nights.|Value for money low.

Stayed here 02/07 - 09/07 2025 The accommodation is suitable for those who have a small travel budget or do not have high comfort requirements but value the central location. If you want luxury and glamour, this is not the place for you. However, if you want to stay very central (20th street) and cheap, this is the right place for you. A simple hostel with two kitchens. There are several grocery stores nearby if you don't want to spend all your money on going out to eat. Pros: Central. Well-cleaned rooms. Value for money 6 (see below **). Cons: Very basic rooms. Very basic beds. The kind used in the military. Beds 1 (see below *). *(Sinks through 0 - Average 5 - lies on top of the mattress 10) **(Throws money down the drain 0 - Break Even 5 - Highest profit 10)

Very good location, just few minutes walking to the metro station. Also, the neighborhood is quiet, yet, there was a target store near it. Clean room and bathroom but very tiny room and bathroom 😄 friendly staff and we were provided early check in. Good prices. Suitable for short stay. Reception was available 24 hours and payment was in cash.
