Alma San Diego Downtown, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel

I've only been here for one night of a three night stay. First impressions: the worst bathroom design I've ever seen. It's a tiled cave. All sounds are amplified. The "door" is a floating glass barn door, so you'll hear all of the amplified sounds of your travel companion's bowels when they get up in the night, and you'll smell them too. The "door" is heavy and difficult to open if you are elderly, not strong, or have a shoulder injury. The tile is a pattern that looks dirty so they don't have to clean it. I'm pretty sure there's feces on the wall next to the TP dispenser. I touched it and it's not part of the tile, will take a photo and try to clean it later and report back. I've been almost all Marriott brand hotels in Gaslamp area, and Alma is easily the best value for elite status. The breakfast is a full breakfast. The others I've been to only include a snack, nothing else included. Breakfast also ends at 12 which is a game changer compared to most stays (where breakfast typically ends hours earlier). ||All the staff have been wonderful. One of the front desk managers offered a good deal on a room upgrade since the one I was looking at had just sold out. Cleaning staff , nice, they returned an item to me I accidentally left. Bartenders at night made good drinks and were friendly. Very accommodating.||The balcony views are very nice. High floors. Not next to a party club either.

Positive: "" Negative: The hotel is located next door to a nightclub that blasts loud music until 2:00am on a Sunday and later on Friday and Saturday. It’s so loud that you cannot sleep. If you book here, please demand that your room is on the opposite side of the hotel.

This hotel is fantastic! I loved everything about it. The finishes are beautiful and modern, the lobby is chill and inviting, the rooms are well appointed and up to date. Very nice cafe and bar in the lobby. Rooftop pool and deck area is lovely and large. So spacious. I will definitely prefer this hotel every time I'm back in San Diego.

I booked this hotel as it was a Chase Edit hotel and have had great experiences in the past with the perks that come with using this card and booking this level of accommodations. Unfortunately, this stay, aside from a couple of interactions with a few staff, was very disappointing. The valet people have always been very kind and try to be a prompt as possible which I very much appreciated. The man who checked us into the hotel was also great, polite and friendly and explained the benefits we would receive in detail. There was a woman at The Cafe, she may be the manager who was also friendly and tried her best to rectify the issues that arose. Unfortunately, The Cafe and the “breakfast credit” we get through Chase Sapphire Reserve was extremely flawed. The wait times for breakfast were so
