Spend the weekend here to climb Katahdin. Just an amazing campsite overlooking the mountain. The people running the camp were absolutely a joy to talk to. Everybody that you meet in the campground is very nice and approachable. You can hike for the whole day and come back knowing that your belongings are being messed with.
My adult daughter and I had been looking forward to our camping adventure here for my 51st birthday. They really don't like you to request a certain campsite but with a little sweet talking they agreed as we were wanting a waterfront tent lot. They also were great about helping us reserve kayaks during our stay. Do to weather we were not able to rent them and had to cut our trip early. There were no other campers on the waterfront sites and they are were VERY small so we ended up moving to one of the bigger ones #23 and it was perfect for our large tent. I would definitely keep in mind as we learned right as we got there that the waterfront is not on the moving river but more like an inlet/bog still water, and as soon as we got out of the car we were attacked by black flies by the thousand
Needs better Management. Site 25 is a Frog pond. Literally a SWAMP. Very difficult to park a vehicle or retrieve anything from it. If your loaded and camping. ThanX Management. Not A Good spot to see the mountain. LIKE Management Said. Well. If u wade Into a Frog pond Swamp. And rubber neck... it IS. Drove 5 hours for this. Was Soo Mad. I had to drive across the road and sleep in my Vehicle. Itried to find him and ask for a different camp site. But. . He went back into his house and Shut All The Lights off so No one could Ask for help. Welcome to Millinocket!!! Its JUST how They ARE. No Refunds. Total waste of my time.
Amazing experience! The staff was super friendly and we got some great suggestions for the area from them! We were lucky and got an amazing tent site with a view directly of Mount Katahdin. Also very calm, and we were able to rent kayaks and tubbing for the entire day for 35$. The tent sites were a bit expensive (20$ per person) but over all our experience was so great we are definitely planning on returning next year.
This store is a lifesaver for thru hikers. The store itself is great for resupply and has a ton of eat options for the hungry hiker. The staff know hikers and it shows. This is also a good place to recharge your devices, hit the bathroom (HOT water), and grab some hot food/coffee. It an oasis.
