Wingate by Wyndham JFK Airport / Far Rockaway

Fantastic experience staying here, I was treated like royalty - staff went above and beyond to make my Son and I comfortable. They have a great selection for breakfast 6:30-9:30 and there is coffee, tea and hot chocolate all day as well as filtered water. The room is clean and comfortable, there is Paul Mitchell shampoo & conditioner in addition to chamomile bar soap. Although this is a higher end hotel the price was fantastic and was very low even for the location. I definitely recommend staying here

It was okay because the room, as well as the lobby, was clean, with modern furnishings. Otherwise it would get a 1. The Queen room was too small for two people. The location is absolutely horrific. Neighborhood is very sketchy. People hanging out in front of hotel and across the street, playing loud music. My husband was hesitant to check in. When asked if the area was safe, the front desk clerk informed us that there were a lot of homeless people in the area. (She was very courteous and helpful.) The parking was a joke. Maybe 6 good spaces for a hotel with at least 50 rooms. No shuttle service as advertised (although there were two shuttle buses parked in the lot, taking up much needed space for guests). The room I got was pretty cute, clean and worth it for the amount of money I had to pay. Due to covid restrictions, the free shuttle to JFK has been suspended and the fitness centre remains closed. It's pretty close to the metro, so it should be pretty convenient to travel to and from the city. The staff at the front desk were super polite and kind. Overall: Very Satisfied.

Parking was a bit tricky but we lucked out twice and got a parking spot on site. The receptionist was very polite and professional. The room was clean, had a coffee maker, refrigerator and microwave. The AC was powerful which was great because it is about 100 degrees. Breakfast on weekends. Average price for a hotel and it is a very short driving distance to some great beaches. If you don't mind the city vibe then this is a pretty good spot.

Stayed here twice on the way to and from a trip abroad. First stay: 3 stars. Pleasantly surprised despite bad reviews. Room was cleaner and less smelly than I expected. Was only disappointed by the lack of food (there's no food or water for sale anywhere in the building) and lack of airport shuttle. (Excuse is still Covid. In reality I'm guessing they don't have the budget.) Second stay: Awful, 1 star. Got put in a room in the basement next to a trash compactor room. This room was filthy: carpets stained with what looked suspiciously like blood, dirt smudged in the bathroom, and a strong cigarette stench everywhere. So, overall, 2 stars for a mediocre room and a downright disgusting room.
