Hotel Mint JFK Airport

Both the "Mint"y freshness and the "JFK" in the name are a bit of a stretch -- it's a 45 minute train ride from JFK, it's rather run-down and in a sketchy neighborhood. I'd be hesitant to recommend this for families or women traveling alone. If you're a man on a budget, and the price is right, perhaps. The hallways and common areas have the faint aroma of "NYC Subway," the elevator is slow and weird and stops where it wants to, and the vending machines in the lobby were not working when I stayed here. There's a 24-hour bodega across the street by the train station if you need anything. My room on the second floor was clean-ish, although both the furniture and the room itself were pretty run-down and obviously have not had much attention for quite a while. I got catfished by this seedy motel calling itself Mint and posing online as a respectable, cozy, comfortable hotel for weary travelers like myself. I searched for hotels near JFK airport. And this one had the lowest price that day. So while I thought I was getting a good deal, it turd...ahem, I meant TURNED out that I got exactly what I paid for. |A dusty, musty, rusty, crusty around the edges, low thread count itchy sheets on the bed having, Marijuana smoke scented hallways, with the aroma of all the smoke, perfume and paraphernalia that was smoked in the room ages ago saturated into the walls, as soon as you walk in the room the type of "hotel", with no phone in the room next to the bed, about two towels in the bathroom (also of low thread count). One of the worst experiences in a hotel I've EVER had. The hallways were sticky.... REALLY sticky the rooms look like they hadn't been cleaned in months. There were hairs of ALL kinds in the bed sheets, ( we put down our dirty clothes on the bed to lay on). Didn't even consider showering since the bathroom was so questionable, and there was BLOOD ON THE FLOOR NEXT TO THE BED..... When I turned in the key and mentioned the blood, the woman at the front desk kinda laughed and shrugged her shoulders like it was to be expected. DO NOT BRING KIDS HERE.... IT IS NOT SAFE AT ALL. Not to mention they have "hourly rental" rates for the rooms bringing questionable customers..... I woke up to LOUD moaning and screaming from people having sex next door. Walls are paper thin.

Lady at front desk is rude and nasty. Comes off as hateful and has some kind of issue with paying customers in general. Very disrespectful. Bad for business. I’m sure others would agree. I book rooms almost every other week when out here for work and always have some kind of issue with her. She will argue and play games with your booking. No issues with the other staff that work at front desk. The rooms aren’t that great either. Can be dirty, unkept and dangerous. Also park at own risk.

Positive: Nothing. Will never go again. Negative: The hotel smelled like cigarettes. There was no towels available in the room. Not even a phone to contact the lobby. That hotel was a mess
