Important to read before booking. If I could give this motel zero stars, I would. I strongly recommend staying somewhere else. The couple who runs this place is extremely rude, especially the woman at the front desk, and they constantly have an attitude for no reason. My partner and I used to stay here when visiting family for the holidays, despite the poor service, but that changed after what happened this past weekend. While we were in our room having dinner, a staff member confronted a man outside our room and told him he needed to leave. The man refused, saying he wasn’t doing anything. A few minutes later, someone began knocking repeatedly on our window and door, and shortly after, tried to open our door by sticking something into the doorknob multiple times. Me and my boyfriend went to Salinas for a birthday party and needed a place to stay for 1 night. Many of the hotels had no vacancy the night we needed, so there were only a few motels to choose from, very slim pickings... So we did our research and booked the Wagon Wheel (nothing fancy). We pulled in and it's off a very busy street, but we were aware of that. The room was very clean, and you don't hear the traffic noise too much. There is a flat screen tv, microwave and coffee maker in the main room, with laminate flooring. The bedspread and furniture is a bit dated, but it was very clean and that is what we cared about. I booked this hotel specifically because it was next door to the American Legion where I was supporting my father, a local musician. I was looking forward to a safe place to stay after the event. Unfortunately, I never even made it past the lobby. Upon arrival, I was treated with extreme hostility and judgment by the staff. They refused to check me in or honor my prepaid reservation based on a subjective smell. I was polite, cooperative, and explicitly stated I would follow all property rules, but they were hateful and dismissive. They refused to provide the room but still kept my money. It is incredibly disappointing to see a local business treat someone this way—especially someone trying to be responsible by booking a room instead of driving. We had a great time here. Good price and if you come here don't expect a brand new hotel. Its an older hotel and yes most of the stuff is outdated but hey i was there to sleep. Front desk are also kind. I recommend
