Good place to camp off grid. Not kept up and creek is overgrown in this area. Road access is narrow and would be hard to work around if meeting another vehicle. High clearance vehicle recommended.

Great place to camp in spring or fall before it's too hot or cold, though it does cool down surprisingly at night because it's in a valley. It only has first come first serve campsites and even though it's free to camp here there usually is at least 1 open. It is purely primitive camping, though the creek usually isn't far to get water from. Sometimes if the road hasn't been graded in a while the entrance from Wolfpen Gap can be a bit rough and wouldn't recommend it for any cars or low clearance crossovers. AWD isn't a must, but if it had been raining the day or two before I wouldn't even try that entrance due to it's grade being too high. The other entrance off of Gainesville Highway is alot better, though you still wouldn't want to bring a low clearance vehicle in. A honda CRV for examp

Although we didn't stop to camp, this looks like a great primitive campsite almost off the beaten path. Parking for half a dozen vehicles and clearances for campfires. No toilet. There's a nice little creek for water. This is a pure off-road, gravely and pockmarked, so a base AWD with decent ground clearance would do. I managed through with my highlander hybrid although it is not a true AWD.
