Vagabond Inn

Right off I-5 in a great location however we could hear the freeway from our room but it didn't affect our sleep. Room was large and clean. Our only complaint was the bathroom door didn't shut because the lock wasn't fitted correctly. I notified management upon leaving and they said they would fix it right away. Breakfast was meger but sufficient for our needs. Overall a great value in a location we felt safe in. Something that's harder to find nowdays in the Bakersfield area sadly.

Positive: Wonderful bed Negative: Handrails on the stairs are very worn so please be careful of splinters

Traveling with Family: Service was okay, breakfast included waffles and cereal, juice, milk, and coffee (all okay). The cappuccino machine was broken. Rooms: Sheets, blankets, and pillows were old, some torn and burned by cigarettes. The room's appearance wasn't good; it was old with a very poor and outdated structure and paint, and there were cobwebs in the room (as shown in the photos). However, the room itself smelled okay, although the surrounding area had a very strong odor of cattle feces and urine, but this odor wasn't present inside the room. Security: Okay, I didn't feel unsafe at any point. Summary: It's a simple roadside hotel where you can rest, take a shower, and continue your journey.

Remember those old Motel 6 commercials? The ones where Tom Bodett calmly promised they’d leave the light on for you. Well, after an 11 hour drive down from the north, I pulled into Motel 6 and the light was off, figuratively and maybe literally. They had no vacancy, so I ventured across the street to the Vagabond Inn in Buttonwillow. Now let’s be clear. I’ve stayed in many a motel, and many a hostel in third world countries, and I have to say, I’ve found much better value for money elsewhere. See the photos if you have doubts. The Vagabond lived up to its name. The experience started with the highlight.
