Turkey Springs Dispersed Camping

Came here at Thanksgiving so there was snow and ice but I made it thru the snow 4 miles in to find a decent campsite. Made it just fine in a 2wd van but some areas were a little sketch. I stayed in a van with a heated blanket and did fine. We cooked outside before the sunset. Very beautiful scenery with a pond and mountains in the background. Very peaceful and quiet. This is all free and there are trails you can take four wheelers on.

The place is beautiful and cell reception on AT&T and Tmobile was great. The dogs stayed off lease because there is nothing around

PLEASE READ!!! Turkey Springs Road (629) is open and very nice gravel road from Piedra HOWEVER if you take Turkey Springs Road (629) from HWY 160 be prepared for a very bumpy ride.... We saw mixed review on here and we figured out why. Currently as of 6/1/2025 google maps states there is a closure on this road which prevents you from going in from the piedra side... it's wrong and that road is wideeeee open so definitely go that instead!!! I have a chevy 2500 with a pop up camper on the back and we made it up the road but it was not fun lol... Much better for jeeps, 4 wheelers, side by sides, bikes, vehicles that you don't mind bumping around a bit... In the end we came out at the gate at the top to this nicely done new gravel road and there was pplenty of campsites that were very spread o

Super sweet and quant spot. Very well taken care of. Best 7 days I’ve had in awhile! Peaceful and serene. Super grateful for this place. I also love the drive by the lake into town.

Quiet, lots of privacy. No water (drinkable or otherwise) or pit toilets. Heavily wooded. Ground a bit dusty.
