This was truly a fun experience. The wagon was really cool! My wife and I really enjoyed our stay. It would have been even better if there was a bathroom in the wagon, but even so it was really fun, and really quiet and enjoyable. We will definitely stay here again. My wife and I really enjoyed petting the horses behind the wagon. They were all really calm and good natured and came up to the fence every time we walked up. If you have a chance to visit this place, definitely go there! Also, it got cold one night and the heater wouldn't light and the staff even called in a friend and worked on it til it got working. The staff(owners) are really accommodating and polite and pleasant. Pay them a visit, you'll really enjoy it.
When we arrived, around 2:30pm, there was no one around and the office was closed. A neighbor stopped by to inform us that the owners were out of town and their horses had just been seized for neglect two days before. We had already paid for our stay and had our site, so we stayed. Never did see the owners. Location is okay, you have to ride through the Spruce Creek area to get to other trails and there are signs up saying it's private. The campground looks neglected. Not mowed, manure bin overflowing. The actual layout and barns are nice, they just need to be maintained. Some of the sites are taken up by old trailers or farm equipment. The front barn has mats in the stalls, the back barn does not. Restrooms are in nice shape, clean with decent showers.
The owners sell feed in their store but their own horses were seized for being extremely thin. Skin and bones! you may want to stay at the camp, which is fun but do not bring your animals here.
Park was in ownership transition; we had no horses; rained like hell; sites drained well; hookups worked properly; host was friendly and helpful (went out of his way to help). Close proximity to parks. Kids will love the western thems. Still works for people looking for quiet. Would recommend with or without horses. I think future visits will be able to rent or take guided horseback rides. we would return if in area. we were visiting friends.
We really enjoyed our visit to both the area and this campground. The host was very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. We loved the rustic yet creature comforts we received during our stay even though we had a couple days of rain. Great wildlife encounters and hiking trails as well. Definitely on our list as a return visit.
