Troutdale Church Hiker Hostel

The donation based hostle gives you basic amenities, a bed toilet, water and electric. Showers are down the hill at the back of the church. The General store down the hill will give you a basic resupply as well as wifi and the owner, Amy, is very nice to hikers. The town overall is very welcoming.

I have been up on the hill many times and have been at the hiker picnic the Wednesday after Trail Days for each of the last three years. The hostel is great and so are the people! It is safe, quiet, and definitely NOT a party location. The hostel has two rooms with plywood bunks. There is a picnic pavilion just up the hill where there is access to a fridge and lots of tables. There are portable toilets near the hostel and there is a shower in the old white church you walk by on the way up the hill. There are plenty of tent sites on property and sleeping in the pavilion is allowed. The best access to the hostel is from Fox Creek (6 miles) or Dickey Gap (3 miles). This is a great place to relax off trail. It's clean, quiet, has a shower, a charging station, a kitchenette, picnic tables under a pavilion, a small hostel house, and toilets. There's plenty of room to pitch a tent, too. The Baptist church at Troutdale also hosts a hiker picnic every year the Wednesday after Trail Days at Damascus. They even shuttle to and from the picnic and provide breakfast the morning after the picnic for those who stay the night. It's a beautiful place and well maintained.
