Mount Rogers and Appalachian Trail Loop

Outstanding hike. Long and pretty tough in spots but overall a must do when in this area. Views are amazing in all directions and the trails were a lot of fun with a variety of scenery to make it worth it. Very muddy though. Parking lot is very small so get there early.

Beautiful hike. Between Grayson and Mt Rogers. The hike was difficult and steep. I was hurting the next day but the view and the experience was worth every moment of it. Recommend this hike!!!

Solid place to start a 22-mile counterclockwise loop in the snow. Clear roads to the lot. Snowy trails around.

An absolutely beautiful place to hike. Can be a little bit difficult in some parts but the scenery is worth the hike.

9-3-22 I've always done this "loop" starting in the Massie Gap area (backpackers lot) in Grayson Highlands SP using the Appalachian Spur Trail, Appalachian Trail, Crest Trail, Pine Mountain Trail, to the Appalachian Trail again, and ending with the Rhododendron Trail in the Massie Gap area. This is about 13 miles with over 2500+ feet in elevation gain. Strenuous for most with rock scrambling, roots, and difficult footing. Have seen ponies on Pine Mountain and Appalachian trails. Highlights are of course the ponies, Mount Rogers, Wise Shelter, Scales Campground, Thomas Knob Shelter, and Lewis Fork. Would recommend having a paper map or using an app such as All Trails to show you where you are.
