TownePlace Suites by Marriott Scranton Wilkes-Barre

Do not book this hotel. Cannot believe this is a Marriott brand. Our room at check in reaked of weed. Moved to another room. Front desk told us it travels through the vents. Ok to smoke weed in rooms? Next room was so delipitated, old stained torn furniture, and disgusting bathroom. Bed from hell and pillows that seemed like socks were rolled up and thrown into a pillow case. First weed room looked just as bad. Middle of night second room was also overtaken with weed odor. An overall disgusting hotel.

We booked this hotel to go snow tubing on Montage Mountain. Proximity to mountain was great! There were also stores and restaurants nearby. We were unaware that there was no breakfast until we arrived and inquired, since it was listed on the website. The pool and workout room were also closed. The room was dated but okay. The staff person (just one was there), she was really nice. There was only one towel in the room, some stuff left behind in the bathroom drawers, and there were crumbs on the couch. It didn't seem like it was cleaned very well or restocked. Disappointing considering this was Marriott. We ate at Nonno's pizza for dinner. It was TERRIBLE. Pizza sauce from a can! We had a very nice stay at this property - only one night, but the rooms were well appointed and clean, looks like a newer property, lobby was nice to work in, breakfast was typical of TownPlace with nice options and well setup. Walls were a bit thin and a bit noisy but not too bad. The staff were wonderful. Everyone we met was super friendly and courteous - and made us feel welcome - like visiting family. We'll be back! Thanks for a nice stay.

Update: I just wanted to add the lady at the front desk, Shazia, made our stay a little better. She is so friendly and should be a manager. After a long day of moving, we were exhausted and just wanted to relax. Unfortunately, our stay got off to a rough start: a guest was blocking the entrance with a growling pitbull, and then our key card repeatedly failed to open the door. Once we finally got inside, the pull-out sofa bed was a major disappointment. It was extremely uncomfortable—my son barely slept—and there was no fitted sheet provided for the thin mattress, which had a questionable stain. The staff is amazing! I stayed here for a business trip and had an awesome experience. I had 3 important business calls in the same day and had multiple technology issues. Shazia was so friendly, helpful and supportive. She helped my stress level come down significantly. Every staff member I passed smiled and said hello, even the ice machine repairman (I don't know if he even worked there :-) ). I'll be sure to stay here for my next trip to Scranton!
