We dinned upstairs and it was a fabulous meal! I started with a maple walnut old fashion, had the haddock in the potato crust (so yummy and comforting on a snowy winter's night) and finished with their brownie sundae which was huge and very shareable! The service was excellent and I even got a history lesson- it was a wonderful meal. Very classically historic and charming spot in Durham, NH!
We had a reservation for a group of 15 people to celebrate a birthday and were extremely disappointed with how the evening turned out. The restaurant seated us in a small room with low ceilings and three other two-top tables ... not ideal for a large group. While we were laughing and enjoying ourselves (we were in no way being rude or disrespectful), the manager aggressively came up to our table and rudely told us that our laughter and fun were “making them lose business.” and as he walked away he scoffed loud enough for all of us to hear him. It was shocking and completely uncalled for. Our server, however, was beyond kind and accommodating. She did everything she could to make us feel welcome and taken care of, which we truly appreciated. Unfortunately, the manager’s behavior overshado
The inn is a historical landmark in the center of Durham. The location is great and the building and grounds are beautiful. We found the inn staff friendly and welcoming. We had dinner at the tavern which was good. However, our dog-friendly room was in a dark basement at the back of the property. The beds were very creaky and we found that in the early morning our room did not have hot water. That was fixed after a call to the front desk. The included breakfast was the most basic I have ever had in a hotel or inn. Just coffee and plain bagels individually packaged in a ziploc bag. It wouldn't be much more trouble to provide some fresh fruit and cereals, or even scrambled eggs. This inn could be a destination with minimal investment.
What a great time dining at this Inn. Our server, Romaine, was pleasant and helpful in describing some menu options. Food prep was superb and portions were generous. She also shared information about the house and its history. Look forward to returning soon.
Excellent food and service, ruined by an unbelievably rude manager. Let me start by saying the food was fantastic and our server, Kiara (spelling) was incredible. She was more than attentive, personable, and one of the best I’ve had in a long time. She single handedly made the evening enjoyable… or at least she tried to. We were a group of 15, seated in a small room, trying to have dinner and enjoying each other’s company. Naturally, with that many people, there were multiple conversations going on nothing outrageous, or remotely disrespectful, just a lively group in a private space. Then the manager, Dan, came storming in with a huffy, puffed up attitude and told us to quiet down because he was “losing business.” The way he delivered his message was shockingly rude. Zero and I’ll reiter
