The Smokehouse Lodge & Cabins

We stopped here on our long drive home from Florida and loved how convenient it was— just a quick hop off the interstate with easy parking, and we felt totally comfortable leaving our car there. My husband especially enjoyed it because it reminded him of motels he stayed at growing up. It has a fun 70’s vibe without the shag carpet. It was clean and comfortable. The tub could use a little maintenance, but overall our stay was pleasant. Since we arrived and left when it was dark, it had a slight “scary movie” feel at first—but in the light of day, I think it’s more of a charming “hallmark movie” kind of place. We’d definitely like to come back and experience it during the day. The peaceful frog sounds from the nature and water behind the property were especially appreciated.

Walked in on a foggy night to cheerful staff and a warm fire. The lobby was cozy and inviting. ||We drove to our cabin. In the fog, it was a bit challenging. However, it was more challenging since cabin numbers are not illuminated well. We went three places before we got the right cabin (ok, one was because staff highlighted the wrong cabin on the map!) There is a lot of parking. ||We entered into a kitchen. We had two bedrooms off the living room. There is a nice screened porch off the back. There was a hot tub next to dining room table. There is a fireplace with wood stacked for burning on the porch.||The bathrooms were old but hey, it’s a cabin. ||I could see a group of friends staying here. It would be nice to rent out a few in the warmer months for a family reunion or friends getaway.

My husband surprised me with what was supposed to be wonderful Valentines day getaway..well.... SURPRISED doesn't quite cover it. Feeling like we had be bait and switched was more like it . The hotel is expensive and dated... The "Smokehouse" burned down 2 years ago . This is the main attraction drawing us to the location . So no great smokehouse dining to be had. And until you get there no mention of it. The have a small bar and grill off site slightly,but frankly the 3 star rating and prices kept me out of there. Outside looks like a junk yard to be or what's left of one . Nothing to do in the small town for certain and some of the recommendations were off site and 50 to 70 miles away..why would we do that? The heating and air window unit at first wouldn't operate because it said filter

We loved our first visit so much, we're back a second time! The first time we were in the area for an event, and the second time we came just for the cabin and the neighboring restaurant. The staff is so kind and accommodating, and the rooms are SO lovely. We have loved both cabins we've had! Can't wait for our third cabin 🙂

It’s amazing to me that this place has 3 google stars. It’s awful. Our room clearly had water damage that had not been repaired. The walls were bulging. The floors were warped. Who knows what mold is growing there. Then there were the random holes drilled in the furniture for no reason. Just weird. And then the signs posted that I can’t dye my hair or flush latex gloves. I mean seriously?!?! I’m clearly not the normal clientele. I hope I did t bring bed bugs home.
