The Prospector Motel

The room is compact, which we were fine with, but the layout required creativity. Instead of a nightstand, I used a trash can and the edge of the bathroom sink. The tile and carpet were nice, though I kept stepping on exposed carpet tack, as in staples sticking up from the floor. A curio cabinet wobbled every time we walked by, which we later discovered was missing a foot. The claw-foot tub looks charming, but if you have long hair, washing it one-handed while holding the shower head takes some coordination. Basics were trimmed back more than expected. There was no soap provided in the shower, only one washcloth and one hand towel for two people, and while there’s a microwave, there were no mugs, and stainless steel travel mugs can’t be used. We enjoyed our stay in Idaho City, it was an interesting place to visit. We were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary and so the accommodations fell a little short for providing the comfort we hoped for. The rooms have been recently updated, however the upkeep on the hotel has obviously been neglected from the pictures posted. Our room smelled strongly of cigarette smoke which was not pleasant for us. The carpet felt crusty, I am guessing they had probably recently cleaned it but it was off putting for our stay. I appreciated the claw tub as it was fitting for the location however trying to shower in the tub was difficult because of the set up for the shower curtain. What a wonderful little room. I was with friends on a camping trip near Idaho City. I needed a place to stay as I could not stay at the camp site, and The Prospector seemed like my best option. I had a wonderful little room with all the modern conveniences, but had a very retro charm to it. I stayed over the labor day weekend so I had no issues with temperature. The bed provided was quite possibly the most comfortable mattress I've ever slept on. In fact, I asked what type of mattress it was so I can get one of my own, and they were happy to accommodate my request. The shower provides very hot water, very quickly. Wonderful gem! Loved that the rooms were updated and clean. Because there is no front desk, it would be nice to have some extra towels, pillows, etc in the room prior to check in, or a closet in which to get those so that we don’t bother the owners, but they were super responsive to anything we needed! Location was wonderful and what an awesome, unique town to visit. Claw foot tub was also such a treat!! Thanks for a wonderful stay.

The room was clean and comfortable. Management provided contact information but left us alone. Dogs are allowed and the place was small but homey. I would definitely stay here again. Thank you and happy birth!
