The Foothills Inn

We spent a long weekend at The Foothills Inn in Rapid City and were pleasantly surprised! The location made it super easy to explore Mount Rushmore, downtown, and the nearby parks. Our room was spacious, spotless, and comfortable—perfect after a long day of adventures. The staff was friendly and helpful, and we loved the quiet, relaxed vibe. Breakfast was good, and a variety was offered. Great value for the price! Would definitely stay again when visiting the Black Hills.

Be totally aware that these people double charge you AFTER you leave and will provide no receipt. You do not know you are charged until you get your credit card statement. I will be taking them to court and possibly checking federal guidelines for treatment of service dogs, if the additional charges are not removed from my account. NEVER recommend. Fortunately I took pictures of the room when I left and had witnesses to the condition as I never want any questions as to how my room was left as I have service dogs. Actually return of money or not I am considering court action. I don't support illegal stealing of money.

We had a pleasant stay at the Foothills Inn (Rapid City, SD.  The room was recently renovated, in 2025 per the hotel’s online info.  The furnitures & room decorations look homey & appealing.  The bed is firm & the bedding is comfortable.  For breakfast, the hotel sweetly offers microwave-ready cheese hamburgers which are not often seen in most of the hotels we stay during our 2-week trip.  We’d not hesitate to stay at this hotel again in the future.

This hotel was certainly more budget friendly for this area. It is dated, but beds were comfortable and clean, as well as bathrooms. The mattresses are the old style, more spring than foam, but we grew up with that, so not a huge deal. Carpet and decor are aged, but not awful. Let’s talk water pressure, ours was terrible and it seems like an easy fix. Plenty of water was coming out of facet and good hot temp, but when you turn shower on, it turns to a trickle. Not so good for a lot of hair to wash, but thankfully this was my skip hair wash day. Hotel staff were friendly and courteous. Check in was easy. Cleaning staff were cheerful and polite. Fine location but I feel dirty after staying here and will treating all our stuff and ourselves for possible bugs. I didn't see any signs up on arrival but there was trash and left belongings under the nightstand from the previous guest so I am unsure whether the room was properly cleaned. And upon arrival the desk clerk was unkempt with her sleeve ripped and falling off her arm. She was also rude. We already paid for the room but she refused to let us use the restroom to change because we were a little early. Also the locking mechanisms are not installed properly. And I'm pretty sure they charge you an extra $25 for electricity on top of the room fee, which it should be included.
