The Elmwood

Stopped here on a loooong road trip to Nova Scotia, and was joyously surprised by the accommodations and the service. We were concerned we'd be arriving late so we called in advance and spoke with Barbara, who was just so kind and assured us that she worked all night and she'd be there to greet us and get us into our room when we arrived. She helped us find a location to store our bicycles (which had been on the back of the car) and got us into our rooms. Exceedingly helpful and kind person. The room itself was extremely clean and a great quality; quiet refrigerator, quiet AC/heater, steamy shower stall, working television, great lighting, plenty of charging cables everywhere. We had a wonderful experience. The rooms were clean, the staff were friendly and accommodating, check in was quick and hassle free. The hotel is our go to place whenever we visit Maine. Also it was centrally located right off the interstate and easy to find.

Really I would give the room 3.5 but that’s not an option and I don’t know that I feel this hotel is earning 4 stars. This for a notable safety concern. There is no safety latch on the door. There is only a deadbolt. There is also no peephole in the door to check if you need to open. If you are a single woman traveling alone like I was, I don’t recommend this hotel for that reason alone.

I emailed the Elmwood to ask about room availability for my dates, and Mason got right back to me. None of the other motels I contacted did that. My stay at the Elmwood was very pleasant. I was warmly greeted when I arrived. The room was spotless, and the bathroom was beautiful- very clean- nice fluffy towels, hairdryer. The motel is easy to get to from I-95 and is conveniently located near all kinds of restaurants and shopping. I didn't realize they were renovating, but since they are, I have two suggestions for the future. First- more light in the main room. Only one lamp wasn't enough for my old eyes to see to get things out of my suitcase- had to use the bathroom light, which was ample. We arrived late and as a frequent traveler, I can attest that it was the smoothest check-in I’ve ever experienced. We stayed for a night and my husband and I had the best sleep! No lie, it’s hard to get those these days, especially in a hotel. The rooms were straightforward, updated bathrooms, and it’s dog friendly. They offer continental breakfast and the staff were accommodating. Next time we head this way again, definitely going to stay here again!
