The Desert Star

Great location on the less windy south side of town. Near everything but far enough away from Palm Canyon Drive to be very quiet. All units are privately owned condos managed as a hotel though the Desert Star. Spacious rooms. Nice private back patios. Great salt water pool. No kids. Free parking. Great place to stay and rot in the sun.

We had a friend who owns one of the condos here and booked another to spend the weekend with him in Palm Springs. It's like getting to stay in a little art deco museum while being allowed to touch and enjoy everything. We had a fire pit on the terrace to keep warm during the cold night (which we didn't use, but it was a nice touch), the pool was beautiful, with a view of the mountains and blue sky. Overall, the Desert Star was beautifully authentic, calm, well fitted out, classy, friendly but not in your face, well located beside the Buzz (free shuttle which potters downtown every 15 minutes). Loved every minute of it and was reminded to write this review when I got a hand written postcard from the managers thanking us for our stay. Very classy. Would love to go back.

Will never tire of staying at the Desert Star. Relaxing, beautiful pool area surrounded by the mountains and blue skies. Rooms are spotless, open, and airy. We’ve stayed in units 4 & 6 and both are equally nice. Debra and Richard are always available to help with questions about the motel, or tips on local happenings and things to do. We always look forward to our stays at the Desert Star!

Oh my. I debated whether to write this review or not; this truly is one of those places you kinda want to keep to yourself. But alas....||||As others have said, this is really a unique space in Palm Springs. Six bungalows, great salt water pool and gas patio fireplace, and amazingly styled and comfortable rooms. The Desert Star is just a short walk, bike ride or drive to downtown, and very near the Ace Hotel, Saguaro, and Purple Room. We loved the location; so quiet at night. There are amazing views of the San Jacinto mountains from the pool, and I loved looking up at the two very tall palm trees across the street, that were often lit up at night. ||||The rooms are amazingly styled, and I loved the book collection in the rooms that truly put you in the Palm Springs state of mind. W

Our stay at the Desert Star will provide us with a new standard against all future rentals will be compared. every aspect of the decor and furnishings were well chosen, clean, comfortable and - as a wonderful plus - aesthetically pleasing. We were there in cool, rainy mid-January, so we didn't get to take advantage of the pool and outdoor spaces, but we were warm and comfortable indoors. Kudos to the owners for the thoughtful and workable renovation of this mid-century property.
