The Courtland Hotel & Spa

We stayed at The Courtland Hotel & Spa in Fort Scott, KS on February 14th, 2026, and had a wonderful experience. Frank personally greeted us upon arrival, which immediately made the stay feel warm and welcoming. He even gave us the “nickel tour,” sharing a bit of the hotel’s charm and character along the way. We stayed in Room 15 with a King bed, and my partner and I really appreciated the extra space. The room was comfortable and exactly what we needed for a relaxing overnight stay. We were only there for one night, so we didn’t have the opportunity to experience the spa or other amenities — but based on our stay, we would absolutely return. Highly recommend if you’re visiting Fort Scott.

Like a step back in time. No pool or exercise room, but the atmosphere and decor of the hotel and old-time congeniality and friendliness of the owner/proprietor was worth far more than such extras. The room and beds were clean and comfortable, and the lobby and eating area are very inviting. There is even a little area with fun things for children. The continental breakfast was adequate. This is one place I would like to return to. The downtown area is charming as well, and there are some good and reasonable places for lunch and dinner.

This historic hotel is in the heart of downtown Fort Scott, close to everything we did while here briefly for the weekend. The rooms are on 2nd floor, no elevators here, but it's old-time charm is wonderful. Cheryl, the owner, and her daughter were so kind and friendly, made us feel right at home. The room was clean and spacious, even the bathroom was nice sized. Room 1 is in the Southeast corner of the building, near the sign, but I was pleased with it. It was comfortable and cozy. There was a mini-refrig in room and breakfast on main floor in the early morning, 6am. There were nice, high ceilings and even a ceiling fan in the room. The antique furniture throughout the room and building was so cool. It was a very pleasant stay.

I stayed one night and this wonderful historic hotel was a real gem! The owners, Frank and Cheryl, were very friendly and know what hospitality is. The bed was comfortable, the AC kept it cool and the shower was great. I’ll definitely stay here again when I’m in the area. Location is great as it’s within walking distance to several restaurants and bars.

Frank and the team at The Courtland provide an extraordinary experience. I love historic hotels and The Courtland now ranks as a favorite. The welcome was warm and sincere (even though we were running a bit late on our arrival time). Frank was helpful with suggestions about restaurants and the city center. And everything at The Courtland was incredible. Attention to detail, the quality of items from towels to teapots…..all was well-thought-out. And the spa time? My wife was treated like royalty (Thanks!). Thank you, folks, for making our time in Fort Scott memorable. David and Nancy
