The Brown Street Inn

Subpar experience sadly. New owners have take over since our last stay and the house, grounds, and service have deteriorated. We traveled 4 1/2 hours to stay there expecting the above average experience we received from the previous owners. The pictures of the inn on google are not current, previous owners pics. Upon arrival we were offered homemade cookies then walked us to our room, not offering to help with luggage. We arrived around dinner time and asked the innkeepers for restaurant/dinner recommendations, we were handed a magazine of Iowa City, no specific recommendations given. Didn’t ask for recommendations the rest of our stay. Breakfast was buffet style with same menu as you would receive at a hotel continental breakfast with the same quality, poor. My partner and I stayed here in The Green Room for Valentine's Weekend! It was one of the most romantic and beautiful vacations I've ever had! Who knew Iowa could be so amazing? The hosts were incredibly nice and accommodating. We took the Amtrak to get there and it was really late but Christine and Doug understood! I loved playing their piano and hanging out playing games. The bathtub is super luxe and I looooved the bed! Will definitely come again!

This was my first time staying at a B&B and I wish I had done this sooner! This older home is so charming and beautifully decorated. I stayed in the green room and the bed was so comfy and I enjoyed having a relaxing soak in the bathtub. Christine & Doug are so accommodating with food allergies! I was able to have delicious breakfasts that were dairy and gluten free. They are so friendly and nice to chat with as well! I highly recommend staying here, you will have a great time :)

After my daughter graduates from U of Iowa, I will have to invent excuses to travel from CA to Iowa City, just for the opportunity to stay at Brown Street Inn. Everything about this Bed and Breakfast experience is perfection. Hosts Christine and Doug Blake make the entire experience a homecoming of the highest order. They are exceptionally thoughtful. This time, I picked out the Green Room because I love the option of a bathtub, and the room was SO well appointment. Amazingly comfy bed, spacious, lovely windows, super comfy reading chairs, bathrobes, a mini fridge, spotlessly clean, and so many other small details. Christine is a fantastic baker and breakfast is a real treat. Everyone who stays here is interesting to meet and talk to over breakfast. And the parlor is the place my daughte

We were charged over 400.00 a night during graduation. I had no earthly idea it was that much. We stay at alot of bed and breakfast and they most of the time help us get our luggage and serve you with bread or fresh cookies when you get there. We had nothing like that. This to me is just to make money. You have to love what you do. They were nice I just do not believe they really put a lot of effort into making your stay great! On top of that no breakfast on the last morning we left early. My other family stayed in hotels during this time for under 200 a night. I’m sorry I had to make this review should not ever price gauge this much for graduation it’s very sad
