Hyatt Place Iowa City Downtown

Two stars: great staff and views, but unreliable hot water and repeated fire alarms ultimately ruined the stay. Stayed at Hyatt Place Downtown Iowa City and originally had a room on the 8th floor. We were moved to the 12th floor due to hot water issues, with staff explaining the hot water originates from the top floor. For the first couple of days it was fine, but toward the end of the stay the water was only warm, and on one occasion never got hotter than lukewarm even after running for over five minutes. During our stay, the new restaurant next door set off the hotel fire alarm twice due to a steam vent placed near a fire alarm sensor, once late at night while we were getting ready for bed, and another time while we were in the elevator coming down from the 12th floor. I should probably only give three stars, but This was a cute hotel, and I would have really liked it, but there was no hot water. My hot water was just lukewarm 75% of the time and when it was hotter than that, it was still never as hot as I would’ve liked it for a regular shower and for this reason, I ought to give it a three honestly, but it was a cute hotel. The people who ran the breakfast and the lady who worked at the front desk were very nice. The guy who did the check-in wasn’t the greatest though. He was a little grumpy and short with me. He said here’s your water and put one water bottle up on the counter because I’m a globalist. He didn’t tell me I could get more waters or offered me the two I’m supposed to get. Positive: The breakfast set up was great. Negative: At check-in, I was NOT told where the hotel parking was, since the lot was full?I was sent to three different public lots. During my four-day stay, housekeeping never came. When I called, the staff just said, "Interesting." NEVER came for service!!

The size of the rooms here are great, and if you can get on one of the upper floors there are some great views of the city. The TVs are pretty basic - a non-interactive guide when you turn it on and then just the channels. There is no streaming or any type of interactive element. There is a fitness center with some treadmills, a Pelaton, ellipticals and some barbells. On that same floor you'll find the pool and free hot breakfast in the mornings. The location is a couple blocks southeast of the ped mall, so there are a few hotels that are closer, but the room quality is great for the price we paid on Christmas. If you're staying during a holiday make sure to check the city website, as parking is often free and there's a city ramp less than a block away - no need to pay extra for the hot

I had a wonderful stay at the Hyatt in Iowa City! The hotel is modern, clean, and very well-maintained. My room was spacious with comfortable beds, great lighting, and a spotless bathroom. The location is perfect—right in the heart of downtown, making it easy to walk to restaurants, shops, and the university area. Staff were friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help with anything I needed. The lobby area felt warm and inviting, and the overall atmosphere of the hotel was peaceful. Breakfast was fresh and delicious, with plenty of options to start the day. Parking was also convenient and simple. Overall, this hotel delivers great value and excellent service. I would definitely stay here again on my next visit to Iowa City!
