The American Hotel

I had the most magical long weekend in Sharon Springs with my girlfriends. We stayed at The American hotel and would recommend to anyone visiting this quaint town. The hotel is charming and cozy and the restaurant and bar are an added bonus. We had their breakfast every morning—absolutely wonderful. We also dined there for 2 dinners. Coming from the DMV I can assure you the crab cakes are authentic and delicious. The standout dish though is the mushroom ragout (pictured). Well developed flavors that just melt in your mouth. The lounge area around the fire stove is warm and welcoming—we spent a lot of our time there mingling with other guests. Last but not least, the staff is incredible. We have had two celebratory dinners at the American Hotel Restaurant. Both were outstanding. The crab cakes are the best I’ve had anywhere. The fried green tomatoes and collard greens are excellent, with just the right amount of spice!|We also enjoyed very attentive service, from the waitstaff to one of the owners stopping by to check on everything. I like that they have food at a variety of price points, from sandwiches to steak.

We had a fabulous weekend stay @ the American Hotel. It was a great quiet weekend; we enjoyed the stove in the pub area as it was cozy! we only wish it were a bit nicer to be able to take full advantage of their front porch and backyard oasis - next time we'll return when it's a bit warmer! Michael and Marco were welcoming hosts and are relatively new owners of this historic place. We had our included breakfast and dinner and brunch here - all were delicious and fresh. We also enjoyed walking around town checking out all the places and reading the historical signs - we started doing research on the history of this quirky little town!

My wife and I have stayed at a number of hotels and B&B's and this has become our new favorite. The building itself offers a step back in time with warm and inviting rooms. Our hosts willingly offered just about anything to make our stay more comfortable. The included breakfasts were far better than we ever expected. And our server, Linda was great to chat with. We didn't expect much for dinner, but it was so good we ate there a second time. The crab cakes are some of the best you will find anywhere,

We went just for dinner. We used to go when it was under the direction of the former owners so we were trying to keep an open mind and not compare it to “the way it used to be”. The menu is limited but of the items we tried we were not disappointed. There was a little something for everyone. All of our entrees were cooked to perfection and nicely seasoned. The portions were just right, leaving just enough room for coffee and dessert. We will be back! Most enjoyable!
