Surf 16 Motel

I made a two room reservation for this motel for Memorial Day weekend. Upon arriving to the Motel, I was instructed that only three people were allowed to stay and that there would be an addition $75 charge per person for the other people. After much debate with the “Manager” of the property, who is also the mother of the owner, she informed us very rudely that she would refund our money and for us to go find a room somewhere else. We talked it over and decided to take her up on her offer and cancel our reservation. The owner, who is an extremely arrogant, obnoxious, and disrespectful individual, informed us that he doesn’t care what his mother the “Manager” said, he’s not going to refund a dime. Stayed there last summer and there was a little mix up with our reservation. We ordered a room that included a full kitchen and were given one without it. However, the staff was very friendly and accomodating. They were able to give us a room that met our needs at their secondary property and still let us use their pool at 16 and Surf. Really appreciate that this is a family-owned business. The original room we were given was cozy, very clean, well-organized, and made good use of space. Would definitely stay with them again.

Absolutely terrible. We booked a room for 3 people (all adults) and were very polite. We had 2 friends drop by, so they could walk with us to the beach. At this time, the woman at the front counter runs out and begins screaming about how many people were in the room and tried charging our card for extra guests. (This was Day 1) Fast forward and now we're being harassed the entire weekend. We can't walk in and out of the room without passing the front counter and being reprimanded and threatened (by the owner, Rick) that our card will be charged if there was any damage to the room (there was none, of course). I can appreciate retro but my room was like walking into a dingy closet. Where do I begin. While the motel had a lot of vacancies I was put into the darkest closed off area, like an underground walkway. Walking into the room I could have tripped over the bed right at the door and the overly sickening odor hit me like a brick. The tiny 50's bath was mostly clean. No electric outlets to use for a hair dryer, razor, etc. where one needs a mirror. One outlet by bed. The floor was so gritty I couldn't take my shoes off to walk around without feeling like I was walking on a dirty beach. I'm not sure who their usual clientele is but it won't be me or anyone I know. I couldn't get out of there fast enough.

Our first day we check in we were going to arrived late I called the manager (Carol) to let her know and she assured us it was ok and waited for us to arrive. The room and pool area are very clean and well maintained they offer daily housekeeping services which is a bonus. The staff are professional, accomadating and really nice. I would recommend this motel to my friends & family. The motel is in a convenient area near the beach, boardwalk, stores, & many restaurants.
