Smiling River Campgrounds

Amazing! Clean and safe campground, nicely spaced, with restrooms and water, as well as being next to a river. Fly fishing is allowed there. Camp host was polite and very helpful, as well as friendly! Great experience for us all. (Photos of river and forest, sorry no photos of actual campsites.) Camp sites are adequate for a camp trailer and 3 tents ⛺.

More privacy than Camp Sherman CG, but lacking a bit in under brush with many sites. Roomy tent spots and pull through parking. Beautiful spots on the river, but expect hikers passing through your site along the river trail. Summer homes also view the camp sites from across the river.

One of my favorite areas of the state. I try to stay at one of these small campgrounds at least once a year. Smiling river has nice sites for both small RVs and tents. Decent clean restrooms and garbage locations at several places in the campground. Sites along the river need reservations in advance but you can usually get a tent site not on the river midweek as a walk up. Making a reservation is advised (especially for weekends, holidays, or longer stays) but I've never not been able to find a campsite midweek for a night or 2 to 3. Unless you reserve and pay online in advance, be prepared to pay the iron ranger with cash or check at the campground (25 to 30 dollars give or take a little per night). Absolutely beautiful! My first time camping here and it was perfect. Fly fished the whole 7 days we were there. Did t catch anything but had a blast
