Nice campsites, although they're not very level. A lot of wildflowers. Great hiking from the campground. Great rustic campground that reminds me of how nice things were in the 60s & 70s. The only complaint we're that some people let their dogs of leash, and I observe one bite two people. There was no one there patrolling to keep people from breaking the leash law.
We’ve stayed at Silver Lake Campground twice over the past few years, and enjoy the area. There’s a great 3.5 mile trail that goes around the backside of the hill south of the campground, past several small ponds as well as Silver Lake. It’s definitely worth doing, and not really indicated on any of the maps. There’s fresh water that you can get from a pump, and two vault toilets (two seats each in the men and women buildings). Dogs are allowed, and the camping sites range from pretty good to quite unlevel. If you’re in a camper, it’s probably not a problem, but if you’re planning on being in a tent, I would say half of the sites are going to be pretty uneven and bumpy ground. One problem we noticed this year is that wind can kick up a fair amount of dust, as well as present a risk for f
Stayed here over labor day weekend. While the campground itself was great and clear, a great spot for stargazing, the restrooms were absolutely filthy all weekend and there was no camp host to be seen probably hadn't had one all summer! I will call and complain to the FS. No excuses not to be cleaning the restrooms or stocking the TP over a busy holiday weekend, eh?
Very spread-out sites. Not level though. The surrounding area is wild land, with plenty of exploring for the kids. Lots of wildlife to see. Some teenage partyers showed up next door at midnight and woke us all up, but otherwise a great stay.
A great place to camp. Make sure you bring water and dress in layers. The nights are cold but the camping is wonderful
