Shing Wako Resort

My family and I have been going to Shing Wako Resort for the last 5 years, we just wrapped up our 5th year today. Sadly, we learned the resort owner has had some financial struggles. We noticed some things were different this year, some maintenance issues mostly, but we were also the only guests at the resort this year. During our stay we looked at other resorts in the area and, honestly, nothing compared to the charm of this resort. The owner, Marty, is unique, direct and contributes to the charm of the Shing Wako Resort. We can’t imagine spending our summer vacation anywhere else and truly hope this resort and Marty are able to weather this storm .

Our weekend was relaxing, and the resort is nicely kept up. Our 3 bedroom cabin was one of the new ones, and clean. With a fully stocked kitchen. It is “cabin” living- so be sure to bring your own bath towles, soaps, shampoos- etc. The cabin came with it’s own fire pit, picnic table and coal grill. ||||Great playground for kids. They have many kayaks, paddle boards, and paddle boats for their guests to use free of charge which was very nice. The dock is massive and gives plenty of room to move about and fish from. The beach is fantastic. Nice and sandy and shallow clean/clear waters make family swimming nice. |||| The female owner Sue is a very nice lady. The male owner isn’t much for small chat, and a bit rude with his comments, but tolerable.

DO NOT BOOK THIS PLACE!!! If I could give it 0/5 I would. We booked this place based on pictures because it was beautiful and look so nice and relaxing, especially the beach, however, this was not the case and the pictures were very deceitful, false advertisement and we felt scammed! First off, when you get there, you have no idea where the office is to check in. There are no clear signs where the office is, which we found out it’s in the back of the owners house. After we check in, we are welcomed by the cabins! No joke, literally shacks, where we stayed. We stayed in one of thè older cabins. For more than twice the price you can stay in a newer cabin which appear to be nice. The grounds are over grown with weeds and look very unkept. We get to our cabin and it’s small, but we didn’t mind

The resort is fabulous, our 2 lakefront cabins were clean and perfect. The ground are neat and we'll kept. The fishing was excellent considering we didn't know the lake and are casual at fishing; we all caught fish including a few walleyes. The dock is long but it's because of the property and shoreline. Lake is the cleanest I've seen in that area and the property in the lake is sandy at least 50 yards out. Overall one of the best trips up north I've made and our family has been going up that way for 29 years.

This is one of my happy places, and my family has been staying here for years. Please come and see for yourself!!! Marty is a 1-man show and works very hard to maintain the resort, so people can come to enjoy it. Lake Edward is beautiful, and we caught tons of fish. Don't be steered away by the other 1-star reviews. They all came from one group a few years ago. And it's sad that some people have nothing better to do than bad mouth small businesses. Without places like this, we wouldn't get to enjoy the lake. So again, please come and experience for yourself. The resort is very family friendly and has so much to offer.
