School House Inn

This is a fishermen’s lodge through and through. It’s no frills approach is exactly what their customers seek: clean room, coffee, walking distance to fishing and good food, and awesome staff to take care of you. Added bonus for having the smokehouse right there. Well worth the value.

In my mind this is a perfect spot to stay and fish the Salmon River. It is within walking distance of the lower fly fishing section and plenty of other great spots. Get in the truck and you can fish all the other holes on the river. The rooms are not fancy which is perfect for me. At the end of the day of fishing all you need is a warm room, and maybe a place to tie some flies and a bed to sleep in! I stayed in room number 2. A smaller room but there were only two of us and worked out nicely. Our room did have a small fridge, a microwave, and a coffee maker with coffee, sugar and powdered creamer. We stayed here for a weekend of fishing. I had seen some reviews on Expedia that were less than stellar, but since there were no other options available in the area other than the Red Carpet Inn(also horrible reviews), we stayed here. The owner was very pleasant, very nice guy. We walked into our room and it smelled like body odor. Since this was the last room available, we were stuck there. There was a tv, microwave and small refrigerator in the room. The water in the shower smelled like sulfur, and you definitely didn't want to get any in your mouth. It really is a shame writing this review as the guy is really nice. He needs to take some of the money and do a few things - get the water smell addressed, don't allow smoking in the rooms (there was an ashtray in the room), and thor

The room was clean enough, and the owners were cheerful and the bed comfortable. But the room was a 3-bunk dormitory, which had the slightly unpleasant smell of occupancy by groups of males, with aftertones of air freshener. (Unfortunately, I am hypersensitive to fragrances, and I left with a headache.) The one reading light in the crampef quarters had a blown bulb... lucky I had a flashlight with me. It's clearly a fishing-primary lodging option. For the price ($70), it might be fine for a few guys to share, but if you are a single traveler, the fee is more than i would expect for this kind of facility, and there is no single or seasonal discount. I guess the owners aren't set up for single travelers.

I have been fishing up there for years as staying here. It's changed owners last year but new owners are friends with old owners who were fishing friends of mine. They are all good people. The fishing guide they have Fibur is the best. Im the owner of God'z Rod'z and Reel'z and I recomend this lodge for your stay and Fibur for your fishing guide service. In 2015 I landed the largest steelhead in New York and the school house is where stayed!
