Sands Motel

It was terrible, the first room they put me in was disgusting and still looked dirty and smelled like pot which didn't bother me. I wonder if it's a crack motel. They were nice enough to move me to another room which I guess they thought was better still dirty not Jane clean. Stains on the walls burn marks in the blankets just nasty don't stay there unless you're broke. I was afraid to sit on the bed let alone sleep in it!! Whoever does housekeeping over there needs to clean better. Oh and it cost $110 for two nights and she kept the $10 when I left she stated for cleaning I told her that's what her cleaning people should make $10 a day because they're not very good, I clean for a living!

I recommend for people on a budget. They’ve recently renovated the place and it looks a lot nicer than most of the 1 star reviews from 1 or more years ago. Though the rooms aren’t the top of the line quality, but they are clean, beddings smells good and no stains of any sorts. Well within the value of what they are charging. And the staffers are nice.

What this place has going for it are its incredibly low rates, proximity to River and Starved Rock attractions, clean, comfortable beds, microwave and fridge, and a pop machine. Was not thrilled by the outside doors, lack of coffee anywhere on the premises, lack of shampoo, hard pillows, skimpy towels and washcloths, and overall appearance of carpeting and bathroom. The place attracts a crowd, and most of them were still there when we left around 8 a.m., but late night noise was not an issue. Noticed an extra portable heater in our room, not sure what that means. Would stay again only if nothing else available in the area, but also, have stayed in worse and paid more.

Towels were stained, and the workers were terrible to us. All they have is TV no wifi, and the bathtub was dirty before we got in. There was also mold in the ceiling of the shower. They also didn't make you feel safe as there were bullet holes in some doors. Definitely do not recommend🤢🤮

Stayed here in May because I was visiting starved rock. The location was great, the downtown is only a couple blocks away. Great happy hours after a great hike. The rooms were clean and the front desk was very friendly.
