Residence Inn by Marriott Texarkana

We had a good experience at this hotel. The room was clean, and everything worked . The desk clerk was helpful. The breakfast was okay by free hotel breakfast standards. The only thing wrong was a silly $1.50 plus tax parking fee for parking in a lot the hotel shared with several other businesses. It really isn't smart to make that a customer's last impression as he checks out.

This wonderful inn, so tastefully decorated during the holidays by a very attentive manager, was also a bulwark of support for this distant traveler and seasoned medical specialist who had the privilege of rotating at Christus Health for a couple of weeks (coming from Boston). The Residence Inn staff was so uniformly very sensitive, responsive and good humored. Felt so much like family. Breakfast prepared by a graceful team was the perfect fuel for intensive work. Rooms were spacious with everything needed. Such a perfect force multiplier that will only enhance Texarkana’s bright future.

My grandma needed to stay for a couple of days because of a power outage in her neighborhood due to snow and ice. Kristen, Kara, and Carmen worked the front desk during her stay and they were all so very pleasant and helpful. They helped get her bags and put them on the cart upon arrival and departure. One of them even checked in with my aunt via phone when her arrival was delayed because she was concerned and wanted to make sure my granny was safely on her way. They also made sure she had a first floor room for easy access. Thank you so much Residence Inn for having such courteous staff at this location. That’s how it always should be!

The only reason I rated it fair was because the manager was super nice. I really liked her. She was professional, accommodating and friendly. Now on to the actual rooms. The furniture had white stains all over them. I wiped down literally every handle because they had sticky residue on them. The microwave handle was hanging off and there wasn’t a bag in the trash can. The lobby is super nice which leads you to believe the rooms are nicer than they are. They are dated, however, they could be better if they were cleaned with more care. I personally like nice hotels and it was pretty much impossible to find one in Texas. This one was better than the previous one we stayed in. Compared to what’s available this one was on the better end, they just need to clean the rooms better.

While this property isn’t the easiest to access due to ongoing road construction — which looks like it will be around for another couple of years — the location itself isn’t too bad. That said, I strongly recommend not leaving anything of value in your room. Unfortunately, this is a very real concern that management seems to dismiss or overlook. When we raised the issue, it was met with disbelief rather than concern, which led us (me and my crew of six) to check out and move to another Marriott property. As a Titanium Elite Member of Marriott Bonvoy, I expected a higher level of attention and customer care. Instead, we experienced resistance regarding the posting of rewards points for a direct-billed stay — something we routinely do at other Marriott hotels without issue. Housekeeping s
