Quality Inn & Suites Santee I-95

Booked through Expedia last minute. When I arrived there was only one car in the lot. The place looked deserted. Now I know why! The lobby is dingy and smells very musty. I asked the desk clerk if there were other guests staying here and he said yes but I wondered why there weren’t any cars. The place gave me a weird feeling. He made me put $100 damage deposit down. Strange because the night before I stayed in an upscale hotel and there was no such requirement. He went on to say if I paid it in cash I would get it back in the morning but if I put it on my card it would take a week. The room was very tired and in need of a good paint job. I almost didn’t stay here because I saw so many negative reviews online, but I’m really glad I still gave it a chance. When I arrived, the staff was very welcoming and, since I was a bit unsure because of the reviews, I asked if I could see the room before checking in. The gentleman at the front desk happily took me to a couple of rooms to choose from – no attitude, no problem at all. The room was clean, dated but perfectly clean and comfortable, so I decided to stay. Breakfast the next morning was simple but decent: eggs, sausage links, waffles, different breads, cereal, coffee, etc. They didn’t have orange juice (only cranberry and apple, I think), but honestly everything else was fine and there was more than enough for the very reasonable price I paid. Definitely an older place.. I was happy that I was able to park my vehicle in a high visibility area but as I was walking to my room I was approached by someone trying to sell obviously stolen Apple products. The room was ok although the privacy curtains made it very easy to look into the room from outside, the bathroom door wouldn't close unless you pushed it forcefully. No exhaust fan so you're better off leaving the door open anyway. There was an obviously hollow pass through door to the next room as I could clearly hear their conversations and TV. The Heat/AC worked okay for an older place but there was so much variation between on & off that I was either chilly or sweating depending on the cycle. The TV was small but I was only there to sleep so it was mostly just for background nois

Positive: "" Negative: Cold breakfast, the water was not hot for tea, the bread looks stale. A very minimal complementary breakfast and the front desk was not over exerting themselves for a set up. Bathroom could use a little bit to be updated/freshened up.

We have stayed here in the past and were happy with the room. It looks like there must be a new owner because it is not being maintained and who ever does the repairs thinks great stuff is the answer to everything. In the past the breakfast was great and one of the reasons we came back. I think that it must have been left overs from the day before and cold. They told us they would email the receipt to us, 4 days later we are still waiting.
