when i was a kid, back in 2016-ish, my parents took us between here and castaic lake park, having arranged something with the people workin at both, for two weeks at a time, back n forth. recent reviews say the train is only during daylight hours! different than i remember, but hey, things change. i loved this place. it had bricks and a cool train, and forest that seemed SO FORESTY to me. bring your kids here, and if you're homeless, park your trailer here, and mind your manners, and theyll be nice about it probably. or hey, maybe they wont, cause apparently the train only comes thru in the daytime now! anythings possible! lmao! good park. i remember it fondly. your kids will too, probably. really felt adventurous, without any of the danger associated with actual forest adventure.

Neutral about this place, only because there isn't some sort of water feature near it. Most campsites usually have a lake, or a river or a stream or something that just screams chilling at a campsite. I do like the fact that there are fire rings at each site, which at the time of October 2022 cost around $40 a piece. There is a massive outdoor barbecue area for private parties in the upper campground. You do have to book these campsites through the county website. We did notice there is a camp host on site, who is very helpful. For a quick night out in the woods for a city slicker, this might be your best bet when it comes to Camping close to the city. Think of it as an extended stay, overnight in the woods kind of vibe. I do prefer the lower Campground area, only because it's completel

Stayed one night in the lower campgrounds. Cost $50 for online reservation. The gate is half close if you come late, but you can still drive in by the open half. I arrived around 9 or 10pm. Restroom is clean. Site has electricity outlet! Noise: The reviews are true about the noise for the train tracks . But I got lucky only two passed by in the early morning around 7am. So I wasn’t woken up by the noise. Overall I’m okay with the site, since I just stayed for a night and leave early.

Oak park campground Cost us a lot of Money! Read on…. It was on our radar to check it out! so we pulled in there with our small 5th wheel, it was almost dusk on a rainy day, I wished after that we would have pressed on. There are so many trees overhanging that is was hard to judge the clearance on our RV, anyway we made a mistake by taking the wrong turn, sure others were parked down there, but not until we had destroyed our AC and had broken 2 roof vents did we realize the Oak branches were too low and too strong! Anyway, I hope you can see where you are going, better than I did! When I asked the ranger about the low hanging trees, he told me that those oaks were protected by state of Calif and cannot be cut!! There are No signs to tell you the clearance so BEWARE.

Nice and quiet campground. Had a ranch feel. Heard an actual owl. The California coast train came along periodically. We wish they had showers.
