Moxy Santa Barbara

We recently stayed at the Moxy Santa Barbara and can’t recommend it enough. If you are looking for a spot that hits all the marks—superb location, great amenities, and a fantastic atmosphere—this is it. ​The hotel has an incredible vibe; it’s energetic and fun, with plenty of options whether you want to relax or socialize. The location puts you right where you want to be, making it easy to enjoy everything Santa Barbara has to offer. ​A huge shout-out to the manager, who was amazingly helpful and accommodating throughout my stay. It’s rare to find leadership that genuinely cares about guest satisfaction to that degree, and it made a real difference in my experience. ​ We will definitely be back!

First thing to note is this is more of a hostel than a hotel. If you just need a spot to lay your head while you explore Downtown Santa Barbara, then this is a good choice. The funk zone, state street, and the warf are all walking distance. There is a communal kitchen to store and prepare your food in lieu of a in-room mini fridge. A lounge space with board games. There is a bar and a pantry with snacks available, both for a fee. The free breakfast is cold coffee and stale muffins. The pool is 3ft 10inches deep and is so small that more than 5 people in it will feel overwhelming. The staff are friendly overall, no complaints about any of them. I've been meaning to write a positive review for this location since we stayed there in early July 2025. The front staff was great and engaged, the location was incredibly well located if you want to mostly walk around downtown during your trip, and while the rooms are small, everything is well designed - plus there's a pool! Additionally, we had a minor sound issue and the staff went above and beyond to address the issue. I was really pleased with our stay and would definitely return.

The tiny room was overpriced and unattractive, especially with the ceiling in the hallway with a tarp to prevent it from dropping unto the floor. Have never paid so much for so little.

This place is BRUTAL. The walls are paper thin. The rooms are tiny + so close to the freeway that you can hear every car driving by. Staff seems like you are inconveniencing them by even being there. I would avoid this one if at all possible, UNLESS you’ve had a lifelong dream of being able to take a shower will sitting on the toilet. The bathrooms are so tiny and “open” that’s an option!
