Motel 6 Poplar Bluff, MO

Had to stay overnight in Poplar Bluff unexpectedly. Hoped the rate would be what Hoogle Maps said, $46 but it was actually $86 for a single. Don't trust Google, lol. Desk clerk was very pleasant. Room was really clean, quiet, no odors, little fridge was cold. Lighting was VERY DIM, I could not see my keyboard. I was typing with a flashlight. I tried to turn the TV on just to get more light, but it didn't work. Maybe the remote's batteries were dead. Mattress was thin and kind of lumpy, but the lumps were evenly distributed. I did not try their wifi or make any special requests. The free coffee in the morning was OK. I especially like the "Keep Fan Running" setting on the window heater/air conditioner which prevents the fan from waking you up when it cycles on & off. Verdict:

There was no place to hang our clothes. Indeed there was no real space to open the suitcases. If someone books a room for two people - you would think that there might be at least one suitcase rack plus enough space for the other person to place their own suitcase. There was barely enough space for one person to walk around the room. The other person had better be sitting on the bed. ||Next issue was how long it took for hot water to reach our room in the morning. After a wait and then a timed four minutes I had given up and was resigned to an icy shower but it started to get warm. A hotel of this size should have a recirculating pump on the hot water lines. Okay don't run it 24/7 but start it at say 5 am?||Why not fewer stars? B ecause it was clean

The receptionist was very nice and the rooms were clean. Thats about it when it comes to good things. Firstly, our room door doesnt close properly so you have to slam it to get it to latch, the sink doesnt drain, the towel rack was hanging off, the beds are very hard and they are sparse on confort. The pillows are incredibly thin and the blankets dont actually keep you warm. The room itself was incredibly small. Me and my partner had to shimmy around each other. The walls are incredibly thin as well so you can hear everyone around you. The roof creaks so bad that it will keep you up at night if someone else is above your room. I could hear every step they made. You can even hear their toilets flush. The door on the side entrance of the building has no handle and looks like its been that

Normally I don’t have an issue here. My stats here have always been great. This last weekend 1/26 - 2/2 was the worst ever. The people in the adjoining room were smoking in their room. It’s a no smoking hotel. I called down the first time and they came up. I told Rob the second time and I’m sure I mentioned it to the overnight guy but I could be wrong there. On the night of 2/1 it got so bad I couldn’t breathe and woke up coughing. I don’t know the company policy but if people can’t follow rules they should be asked to leave. The people in 216 were just too lazy to go outside and smoke.
