Matson's Big Manistee River

The views of the river is so peaceful. There are so many conveniences; showers, laundry, camp store. Lots of extras; docks, boat ramp, and cabins. Cheryl is friendly and helpful. Amazing price.

After the year and a half that we have experienced with COVID 19, we have all gained some new perspective on life as it is and as it should be.||Personally, I realized how much a few days away from the maddening crowd is necessary for peace of mind and rejuvenation. Now the mission was to find that in this ever changing and overcrowded world.||My hubby and I have enjoyed camping the past few years – mostly, at Virginia State Parks. Though we have been lifelong Michigan residents, we found the Virginia State Parks to be impeccable – clean, well-staffed, activities for all, and FRIENDLY. We have not found that at any of the Michigan State parks to be honest. However, it seemed our best bet to get away for a few days was to stay in Michigan for now due to COVID. Rented a cabin. Floors of the cabin are not clean, couch had dog hair on it, pillows smelled of dog, and water service smells terrible. The location on the river and trees are great. I would pick a hotel or other campground over Matson's. Place needs some maintenance. May be fine for tent camping or if you want to rough it, but not luxury for certain.

We decided to do a last minute kayak trip. We called and she has a group leaving in 20 minutes if we could make it. We arrived and everyone was friendly and welcoming!

Great campground on the Big Manistee River. We rented the lodge for a multi-family trip and it was perfect for our needs. Clean, comfortable, and a great location on the river. Owners are friendly, helpful, and were quick to respond both before we arrived and while we were onsite.
