What a treat to arrive here after a long day's drive. Perfect location along the coast hwy with easy access. Only a one night stopover - but VERY surprised at the cozy style, comfort and amenities of this "motel" style stay. Quiet - even close to the road. |Nice bed, lovely linens, shower and AC I would definitely recommend using this as your base for exploring the area. What a hidden Treasure! The Margaretta Inn was clean, comfortable, quiet, and pleasant. Check could not have been easier. The little extras were a special touch: heated bathroom floors and personal thank you note from the owner. I would recommend staying here if you are in the area. Short drive to Quoddy State Park and Lighthouse, and to Campobello Island.

We came across the Margaretta on our first vacation to Maine. From US-1, we could see it was a gem. Inside and out, it was evident the owner had updated the motel, quite tastefully. The own happily greeted us as if we were invited special guests. The room was super clean and comfortable. Every detail was attended to by the owner. We spent a couple of hours walking the Down East Sunrise Trail, which is part of the Atlantic Coast Greenway. Supper that evening was at Helen’s . The meal was excellent, and they had options for gluten free entrees and desserts. Their blueberry pie is famous and truly looked delicious. The next day was hiking at trails around Cutler. Machias is a great place to see the Down East part of Maine and the Margaretta is the perfect place to stay.
