Les Cheneaux Motel

Great, cozy place to stay! The owners are so personable & friendly! It had 2 queen comfortable beds, the blankets & sheets were very clean (I could smell a hint of bleach on the pillow cases, which tells me & I feel are clean). It had one bathroom with a bathtub/shower (very clean as well). They provided all wash cloths & towels which yes again, very clean. There was a TV with a bunch of stations to watch, a few chairs, 2 closets to hang up our stuff, one had a shelf next to my bed which was perfect for my cpap, the carpet was newer and very clean. It had a small kitchen with a mini fridge, stove, microwave, sink & kitchen table, which yes again, very clean! The lighting was very good too, curtains on the front window & back door. I was never able to see photos of the rooms since I could never get the website up. Seemed very strange since the owners said they thought it was up. Tried many days in a row and MOTHER site kept coming up. The husband said they were the ones that set up the site, yet come to find out MOTHER has been out of business for a couple of years. Never could figure out what was happening. But the owners sounded sincere on the phone and I read lots of wonderful reviews so we booked a room for three nights. Since they don't take credit cards it's on the honor system. You pay by cash or check when there. Although clean, the room was much smaller than we had expected and the mattress very old so not very comfortable. It also was a double size bed, smaller than a queen size. I feel bad about this review as the owner was very apologetic. Our room had not been cleaned when we arrived and was left the way the previous guests left it when they checked out. Beds not changed of made, hair and debris in the bed. Drain was clogged with hair, toothpaste spit in the sink. The walls seemed to have mold on them. The cornere had a lot of dust and cob webs. Also the rooms are very cramped. We abruptly left.

Wonderful place to stay! The owners are wonderful and maintain the motel very well! Friendly service, homey feel and great price. Convenient location near several beaches and campgrounds. Easy to find with the neon sign, only a few minute drive to gas station/grocery store. 10/10! Definitely staying here on any future UP trips.

I had to travel to Cedarville for work recently and stayed at this motel - it is such a gem and I'm glad I'll get to stay there again when I have to return for work. The booking process is old fashioned (send a check, pay the rest in cash) and super easy, and the owners were so friendly and accommodating with check in and check out, even letting me stay a few extra hours in the morning because it was a weekday. The rooms are absolute relics, with so much retro charm and they were super clean and well stocked. I did want to mention that if you're a particular or sensitive sleeper, the mattresses are pretty outdated and aren't super comfortable, but some coffee in the morning and a walk around the marina will work out the neck and back kinks.
