WARNING!!! Wild hogs OWN the campsites at Lake Theo. If you don’t have a firearm to protect yourself or your family DON’T GO. Other than that the campsite is well maintained. Not worth staying, too far from parking lot. Camp at South Prong or Little Red Tent.

Lakeside camping yes but there are some trees between campsites and the lake. Came in August, very hot one night but got breeze off the lake the second and it was nice. Lots of tiny ants! This is a fact of camping though and our tent stayed ant free. The sites are the closest together I've ever seen, we were only feet from our neighbors. The bathrooms were quite a walk and no showers but we used the showers a 2 min drive away at Honey Flat campground. Water works fine and is a nice feature for a walk in campsite. Shelter over the picnic table also nice for the midday sun and occasional rain drops.

Overall, it is what it is..camp grounds; that said, each individual campsite has it's own positive and negatives. Our site, number four (4), was not build for two tents, but we managed to figure out how we could get them set up. We stayed for five nights and the best nights were when the other sites were empty. Sound travels really good and you can hear everyone. The Basion can be seen grazing just outside the campsite and can also be viewable across Lake Theo. Fishing was a bust for us, couple of bites but no catches. As for firewood, the only location we could find to buy it was the local towns Alsups convenient store, at 6 bucks and some changes. Would we revisit? Yes, already have reservations for later in the year!

Well we wanted to go camping here, but every time you call they are booked up. Most camping locations don’t book up in the fall when temperatures are frigid at night. Don’t know if it’s worth the trip of waiting. Heck New Mexico and Colorado camping in the mountains is not that far away

Scenic and quiet campsite! Love it! The only thing kind of bothering us is these sites are not currently vehicle accessible (Mar.2018). I wish it was mentioned on the website there will be a 100 yards walk to the campsite so I'll be more prepared (maybe less prepare so don't have to carry lots of stuff) for it.
