Johns Brook Lodge

Had an excellent family trip. The hike in is challenging, but completely manageable and the lodge itself is a perfect base camp for hikes around the area. We went in the off season, but the caretaker was very helpful and the facilities were clean and made the trip just that much better of a memory

Just stayed at the JBL with my two kids ages 11 and 14. We arrived at the garden parking area in the afternoon and were lucky to get the last spot. While parking, another opened up but the lot was full for the most part. Parking is cash only and we paid $30 for two nights. ||The hike in is 3.5 miles and took us 1.5 hours. The lodge itself was great and the sleeping rooms looked like they had recently been built. There are two ten person bunk rooms and two four person rooms. Each ten person room connects to a bathroom with vault toilet and two sinks. Toilet paper and soap are provided and there is running water and light in the bathroom. There was a dead mouse in the bathroom one day which was removed shortly after. I only mention this because this is a remote cabin with limited facilities

Stayed at JBL for the third straight summer (fifth time overall), and thoroughly enjoyed it... as always! The location is fantastic, with access to multiple hiking trails of all levels and a lovely brook steps from the lodge. The staff are always welcoming and professional, despite (or maybe because of) their youth. And the meals are remarkably good for 5km into the woods (the salmon we were served after our Haystack climb was incredibly delicious, not only because we had just spent 11 hours hiking, but because it was beautifully flavoured and cooked medium!) You may be sleeping on bunk beds, possibly in the company of strangers, but this is a very special place. Highly recommended!

The lodge inside is really nice looking with wood everywhere. It has plenty of tables and chairs in the living area. You also get access to many books, cards, games, a guitar and tons of historical memories from the ADK. It does not get any better than this. The kitchen is accesible to guest in the winter so you get access to a restaurant kitchen with a 12 burners propane oven and everything you need to cook.||||Our trip was a winter trip so you have to expect going to an isolated wood cottage with a fire stove being the main heat source. After heating the cottage, temperature would typically reach 60F (15C) but that is about it. As the sleeping rooms are a bit colder, plan your sleeping bag accordingly (a 32F, 0C is recommended).||||Overall, the experience and the view is unique and gives

I stayed here last night, in a 10 bed bunk room. At the moment one needs to get the shuttle from Marcy Field to go to the Garden Trailhead. From there it's a nice 3.5 mile walk in to the Lodge. The shuttle runs 7 a.m. to 7 p,m, during the summer.||||The place is clean, staff is friendly and helpful. There are 2 10 bunk rooms and 2 4 bunk rooms. There's a beautiful balcony in the front, lined with Adirondack chairs. There is potable water, and during the summer season meals are included. Supper was plentiful and good, and served family style at 6:30 p.m. Breakfast is served at 7:30 a.m. and a small bag lunch is provided. If planning a big hike, I suggest bringing extra snacks, which can be stored in a mouse proof box.||||Keep in mind that these are dormitories, and people snore. E
