Its a typical hike. Bug free this time of year. Some little elevations to get your heart going. The folks on the mountain bikes can be a bit intense. Nice park.

There's a lot to do at Island Lake Recreation Area--ride bikes safely, swim in several lakes, hike, be alone, be with people, bird watch, forging, rifle shooting range, and more! I love Trout Lake for a clean swim and great fishing. If you have the Recreation Passport on your license plate, you don't have to pay to get in.

Beautiful. Relaxed place where you can walk on gorgeous walking trails w/o seeing anyone. Also some incredible mountain bike trails. Serene place to sit by the river and think or read a book.

★★★★★ 5.0 Hannah Jones · Nov 2025

Great hiking path, they re-routed the trail to avoid the round about. Needs a trashcan here and there but overall really clean and well-marked. Lovely in the fall!

Well maintained area with terrific paths for both walking and biking! I went on a cool day and was worried that the rain and weather would make my exploring rather rough, but I was pleasantly surprised with how well the paths are maintained. The staff I did meet were very friendly and even gave me some good tips on where to go for kyacking and fishing. For anyone else looking for a good place to hike, I highly recommend a trip. You won't be disappointed!
