Such a great campsite! I took my son here and we really enjoyed our time up there. It’s right on the river and really nice for fishing or just relaxing.

Just north of Lake Isabella, the Headquarters campground is a lovely spot on right on the river. It is flat and at this time of year there there only a few other campers. Our site was literally a few feet from the river so at night the rushing water was very comforting. The wildlife was abundant especially the birds and at night there is no road traffic. The stars are magnificent. There is recycling bins for garbage which is nice and self sign in forms. We had a lovely night and a very nice drive past Lake Isabella to get there. We got firewood very near by at a local store/bar. All in all a lovely place to camp.

Cool campground. For most cases spots are spacious. Quiet, clean, with nice camp hosts. Rodney and Candice were awesome and do a great job keeping it clean. Basic vault toilets but were not gross. Would stay again

★★☆☆☆ 2.0 John R · Oct 2025

The restrooms here are vaulted toilets and you can imagine what that's like "Stinks!". Toilet paper was provided in the restroom but the restroom itself was dirty, especially the door handle, one of which didn't lock. The camp host "Randy" had minimal to no people skills. He was rude and even insulting. People like that do not need to be running a campground PERIOD. He insulted you if you had not seen the "Fire Ban" notice at the front gate. Yes, there was a fire ban so my group could not have a campfire for 2 days. That was a real real bummer especially because the weather was cold and rain. There must have been a motorcycle/bikers rally or something because for the entire weekend no matter where we went we heard motorcycles, all day til evening! I go camping to get away from the city

We were at Headquarters campground at Kern River. Randy was the campground host employee and he was very rude to me and my group. We appeared to be bothering him when we asked questions. Camp host Randy has zero people skills and should not be a campground host if he acts rude to campers. The restrooms were filthy and had no toilet paper. There were no campfires allowed at camp which is very disappointing to campers. I will never camp there again and neither should anyone else, unless you like rude camp hosts like Randy. No campfires! Not good for campers. Go elsewhere campers and fishermen! David (Trout Dude Angler)
