Hanscombe Point Primitive Campground is a fantastic spot if you’re looking for a quiet, rustic place to camp that still puts you close to Charleston and the coast. The campground sits on a working farm on Johns Island, with primitive sites tucked near a tidal creek and along a livestock pasture. You get big, roomy sites with plenty of space to spread out, plus picnic tables and fire pits, so it feels more like your own little corner of the property than a crowded campground. Falling asleep to the sounds of the marsh and waking up to cows or other farm animals moving around nearby gives the place a really unique, peaceful vibe that you don’t get at regular campgrounds. It’s definitely a “come prepared” kind of place—outhouse instead of full restrooms, no hookups, and a very simple setup—bu
First time camping here and I will never camp anywhere else! Absolutely love this place. It is EXACTLY how it is described. It is primitive. Bring your own toilet paper. Why would you expect someone to stock it for you.The gorgeous sites are located in the woods off of a spectacular, massive field. At night, if it's clear, you can see a billion stars. There is no light pollution. The creek is fun to watch birds, and other wildlife. The massive trees are covered in Spanish moss. So peaceful. Yes it's a dirt road, muddy if it rains and bumpy, just take it slow. It is well worth it! Yes there are cow patties..its a working farm. That is what makes this place so much fun and unique!! Please "leave no trace". It only takes a few minutes to pick up after yourself. It's too beautiful here,
We had a good stay, just had quite a bit of difficulty with the muddy, rutted roads to the campsite. Do not recommend for RVs 21 feet and over. There are farm animals free roaming the property, so watch where you walk. The sites are very close together, so don't expect privacy. Husband said the outhouse was just fine There was cut firewood accessible for purchase which was very nice. We enjoyed sitting beside the creek and watching the tide come in.
Loved our experience here. VERY quiet. When you are self sufficient and dislike Myrtle Beach, then it s the perfect place to relax! It's a million star place.
I'm an Army Infantry Veteran and i cannot thank this place enough for providing such a peaceful and nature-embracing environment. Waterside with farm (cows, wild animals, ducks etc.) is so beautiful. This is primitive but i value that more over comfort. Nature is a reminder that you arent the center of the universe. Again thankful that you can disconnect so close to a major city. God bless
