Hampton Inn Newport

My husband and I had a great stay overall. We had a decent experience checking in, everything was clean and breakfast was edible. When we were eating breakfast, I noticed how nice the front desk lady was to everyone. She asked how their stay was, made small talk and was generally pleasant and nice. HOWEVER, when I went to check out, she was rude, cold and it seemed like I was bothering her. I really want to think it’s not because I’m a woman of color, but there is no other reason why she would be so extremely nice to everyone else, who was white, and be so cold to me, the only person of color staying here.

Grabbed last minute after crossing the I40 west mountains - where 4 lanes down to a very tight 2 lane road - in the dark 🥺Highly recommend not doing this! Newport is a tiny town but the Hampton is right off the highway. Cozy & clean but the room was freezing. Definitely cringe after 20 degrees outside. Front desk not friendly at check in, or leaving. Breakfast guy was nice. Also note: no microwave in room. And this hotel shares a parking lot with the Holiday Inn Express.

We enjoyed our stay. Clean rooms, spacious, and friendly staff. The man that took care of the breakfast area was very nice and accommodating. I read where people say he wasn’t friendly, I disagree. If you talk to him, he would talk back with a smile. People take quietness as being unfriendly. The breakfast area was clean and the food was hot and delicious. He deserves to be recognized. I made sure to stop by and thank him personally for being a great breakfast host. I will stay here again and recommend others as well.

Great stop along my route to Florida to visit family. Easy on and off the highway and main road, but far enough that you didn’t have traffic noise. Clean comfortable rooms. Parking lot was well lit. Shopping and restaurants nearby. Staff were exceptionally kind. Will definitely stay again!
