Gopher Prairie Inn

It would be unfair to compare this establishment to a 'normal' motel. The Gopher Prairie is the type of place my grandfather might have stayed in the 50s when he and his buddies went fishing or hunting and just wanted a reasonably comfortable room to crash in at the end of each day. While times have changed, this place hasn't, but then neither has its nightly rate. Price is the major - really the only - advantage this friendly but tired motel has to offer. For slightly more than half the cost of the chain motels in Alexandria, it was worth the 50 mile daily round trip when I visited a relative in Alexandria recently. They kick people out over dumb rulings made by the manager. They have brown nosers who pay nothing and can stay and I have one night of loud noise and I'm kicked with my brother and two kids

This is a hidden gem price wise if you don't mind dated and simple accommodations.||||The Prairie Gopher is right off the highway and easy to access. The owners are awesome and super willing to give you a little local history or address any issues with your room. My friend had a problem with the shower head not spraying, and it was fixed in 10 minutes!||||Granted, the rooms are very dated (think 50's or 60's) but they are very well maintained and clean as a whistle. Beds are comfy and pillows are plentiful. The bathrooms are small and utilitarian, so if you want a palatial bathroom, go elsewhere! ||||Parking is free and plentiful. Pets welcome but there is an office cat and another black & white named Corny roaming the property. Beware if you have pooches. ||||No pool. There is a game roo

If you are okay with older style motels than this place is awesome! Rooms are good sized with a microwave and fridge. Rooms are clean and high ceilings are present. Each room had parking right outside it and it's own door. They allow pets and charge a VERY reasonable fee. The lady who runs it is extremely nice and can recommend a good breakfast restaurant and gives coupons for it. The hotel is also conveniently located near the expressway and frontier village.

This motel has no thrills but is perfect when you are looking for a place to sleep after driving a long ways on 1-94. Its right off the interstate, can see from the road. Clean rooms with microwave & mini-fridge. Soap & shampoo dispensers in shower. Picnic area. They allow dogs for a very small fee. Owners are very friendly. Rooms are silent. You pull up to your room, no interior corridors to deal with. Tons of places to eat very close to motel. Outdated rooms but they have everything you need for a great price! More than 1/2 the price of the Americinn across the street. Stay here if its just to sleep.
