Extended Stay America Select Suites- Gulfport

Room: was very run down, TV didn't work right, microwave was sketchy, water was slimy, my wife found a roach in the bathroom. We had pets with us but we didnt expect to get put in dump. Also room had poor air circulation and got extremely humid after the first night. Service: was okay at best. They can be rude when off the clock. Location: terrible location... I wouldn't let my wife go out alone. Didn't feel safe, multiple people smoking stuff by the garbage bins and looked to be plenty of homeless around as well. It's right off the highway but you have to make uturn depending on the direction you are coming from. Worst Hotel/Motel experience EVER!Upon making reservations, we were asked if we had pets, to which we told them yes and we’re being charged for having pets. We are moving onto some property and decided to stay here until things are consummated. My daughter has a cat, my son a 2 ft ball python. After 5 days they showed up to our room to “check” the smoke detector and the maintenance guy points out “oh yall have a snake, im scared of snakes” how he knew its a snake I’ll never know (could’ve been a turtle, lizard or any other reptiles.)very suspicious as it is in a closed aquarium and locked! Now they’re making it as if we lied or tried to pull a quick one. Its a ball python not a king cobra! The mgr was very condescending and not accommodating AT ALL! I’m gonna shoot straight from the hip: This hotel is for extended stays and the price is very helpful if you have to stay somewhere for a month or more. HOWEVER… would it be too much to ask for someone to do a thorough cleaning of the room before checking someone in? This hotel is a discounted efficiency, and I don’t think anyone is expecting a 5-star experience, but cleaning and pest control should be top priority of any hotel and that’s not the case here. I don’t think this review will change that, but I’ll give some practical advice for anyone that needs to stay here: 1. Buy or bring cleaning supplies to mop and clean your whole room and disinfect. Very disappointed with their policy as they said. I was traveling through with my service dog and because I kept her in the car for 5 min while I checked in, they charged me the pet deposit even though she's not a pet. I said i can bring her in because she was less than 100 feet away. It's just easier to check in without her since it's only myself traveling. Never had a hotel try to assume she's not a real service dog because she was not by my side checking in. They don't need to accompany you 24/7. Other than that, the room was clean and decent for the night.
