Customer Reviews
If you are looking for a charming and hospitable stay, then the historic Empire House Hotel is the perfect place for you! Marsha is extremely kind and ensures that everything you need for a comfortable night's sleep is available! She provides plenty of information about the history of Rising Sun, and things to do around town. There is a mini fridge and microwave in the room. There is also a large fridge in the main area if you need ice/water along with some complimentary snacks, hot cocoa and coffee. There were a couple of eating options within walking distance which was convenient. The room was very cozy, the bed super comfy and had a nice nostalgic feel! The view of the Ohio River only was a nice added bonus!
Owner is extremely accommodating and friendly. Rooms are comfy and tastfully decorated, not motel/hotel sterile. Hotel has character. Each room individually decorated. Front faces the Ohio River which has a great walking path. Within walking distance to local restaurants. We would definitely stay here again.
The building was built in the early 1900s, as a hotel and has been returned to its intended purpose. If you like old buildings this one is awesome. My room was in the front, with a beautiful view of the river. The decor goes right along with its historic charm. My room was spacious featuring the bed, small table, two comfortable chairs, a kitchenette nook with a coffee maker, microwave, and mini fridge. The bathroom featured a claw tub. The host makes sure everything is very clean and charming. The kichenette was stocked with coffee, hot chocolate, tea, snacks, paper plates, sugar, creamer, paper towels, real cups. My stay was so enjoyable, peaceful, and relaxing.
My daughter and I really enjoyed our stay here! We drove up to go to the Creation Museum and found this gem right across the river. The inn keeper was very kind and welcomed us upon arrival. Our room was very cozy, quaintly decorated and quiet. We enjoyed the HUUUUUUGE beautiful porch all to ourselves overlooking the lovely river and scenery. The room was clean and I loved the antique fixtures. It was like a step back in time to a simpler time, and very affordable! Staying here was a highlight of our trip, and we were able to take the free ferry across the river. I would definitely go back and recommend it to anyone looking for a break from generic, cookie cutter hotels. A charming and unique experience!
I really can't say much that Brandy McKenzie didn't already say. We also had spent the day at the Creation Museum, and came here to rest before returning home. Relaxing, peaceful – when it rained in the morning we enjoyed relaxing on the front porch watching the rain pour down, looking across the Ohio River at Kentucky. The antique charm of the hotel is a winner in my book, and the rooms were spacious and comfortable. The owner was friendly and helpful, and helped make our stay enjoyable.
