El Dorado Motel

I wanted to go biking in Monterey, so I wanted to stay in a budget motel. I couldn't find an affordable Super 8-like motel in the greater region and I ended up choosing the El Dorado Motel. I paid a reasonable rate ($75 for a Saturday night ) and did not come in with high expectations.||||Pluses:||||* The people whom I talked to on the phone and in person were courteous and kind. Good customer service is important to me, so this was a positive! Without any prompting, I was upgraded to a king sized bed at no cost. This was a nice gesture, given that I arrived after normal service hours after a long drive from Fullerton. A lovely little motel that is easy on your budget in a very expensive area. Extremely clean with excellent shower pressure ( I do tire of the exceedingly low pressure in most hotels ). Nicely appointed for a lovely respite and sleep. Very good wifi at all hours. Good safe parking with security cameras in place. Most importantly, I was very pleased with the hospitality of the family who manages this privately owned motel ( which I found was much nicer than the chain establishments in the area ). Navi and her brother who own the establishment are so sincere and thoughtful in thinking of my needs as a guest. They go out of their way to ensure a comfortable stay. I was really disappointed when we first arrived. One there were garbage and tires in the parking lot. Once we were given our key to the room, there were numerous people hanging outside of the other rooms. It looked more like there were people just living there for ages. Once we entered the room, the smell was horrible. My children were disgusted with the awful smell. The blankets did not look clean. We requested for something to air the room out, did not work. We thought about just leaving and staying somewhere else, but since they would not accomodate the charges that were already taken out, we decided to leave and return when it was time to just go to bed. We were charged 130 dollars for a room in Salinas that had No A.C. The Bed and room smelled like someone has been smoking cigars. There was noise all night. The room is the sizw of the king bed with maybe 2 more feet for walking space. Being 130, i thought id get a room with comfortable bed. But no. The beds are hard and squeaky. We slept over all the blankets because again, No A.C. if i could rate zero starts i would. At least lower your prices.

I stay in Salinas about once a month to visit family. I have stayed in several budget friendly establishments in the year. I was greeted by Navi, the General Manager. She was very welcoming and friendly! She informed me of the available amenities and provided me with ample information for me trip but above all she was so personable! When I arrived to my room, it was a clean and peaceful retreat for me to call it a night. Although there are no frills you will sleep well and comfortably! I highly recommend and tell Navi, that Danielle said hi!
