Edgewater Inn and Suites, an Ascend Collection Hotel

When I first pulled up to the property—labeled as a “Motel” on the exterior signage—I was very hesitant and seriously considered calling to cancel. I typically prefer hotels with interior access and am not a fan of outdoor-access rooms. However, once my wife and I walked inside, those concerns quickly faded. We were greeted by friendly, welcoming staff and a clean, modern lobby that immediately exceeded our expectations. Even more impressive was the room itself, which was accessible from inside the hotel and exceptionally clean. We also spent some time in the pool. The Choice Hotel located at 275 E. Johnson Avenue in Coos Bay Oregon is listed as an Ascent Hotel chain. This so called Ascent Hotel is no more than an Econo Lodge. It used to be the old Edgewater Motel. The wiring is so old that they had to remove the microwaves from the rooms. When Choice Hotel bought the property they removed the on-site restaurant. There is not even an option now for a continental breakfast. None of the exterior doors lock. This property faces a Safeway on one side and a slough on the other. Being Oregon both sides are prone to homeless encampments. It was not safe to walk down the boardwalk at night on the slough side. Positive: The location was good for the event we were there for. Negative: We paid extra for a water view, but I don't think we got the room we should have. We didn't say anything because it wasn't that big a deal, but the rooms that are facing the river with the little patio did look nicer.

I have to come down to Coos Bay in business frequently. They make it so easy with corporate direct billing. Also the rooms are very large, nice and clean. They have nice large TVs. There is an indoor pool if you feel inclined. The service is super friendly and helpful. Convenient location too. I will always stay here when I need to come to town.

Booked a room on hotel site, nowhere did it say that they were remodeling rooms and only had three pet friendly rooms available. We had made an impromptu trip to Coos Bay to see the lights at Shore Acres and had our two dogs with us since we were headed home after Christmas at my parents. We were going to make a night of it and leave in the morning. I received a message to call the hotel because of only three pet rooms. Front desk said that they were completely booked and we wouldn’t be able to stay with our dogs. I asked for full refund and she said to do that through the hotel site. I’d that and still was charged on my credit card for a service I didn’t receive.
