Donner Lake Inn

On my recent solo trip to Donner Lake, I was very pleased with the room, the location, and the ease of check-in and check-out. The grab and go breakfast was perfect for me—it allowed me to get started with my outings for the day (and the blueberry scone was delicious)! This is a special place, and I will return!

This place was fine. But the room we stayed in was tiny and what usable space it had was filled with unusable stuff: a double bunk bed plus a queen bed. You could have children or luggage, but not both. An unusable breakfast counter staring at a wall 18" away. A tiny tiny bathroom with a toilet and the smallest functional plastic shower box you could imagine. Breakfast was premade burritos, chocolate croissants, and a push button coffee machine. It was an easy walk to the lake, but no lake view. Owners might be real friendly and nice, but we never encountered them. We liked being by the lake and we liked waking up in the trees. So, just set your expectations right and the place will be just fine.

Stay here if you want to be treated like family. Paul and Mindy were great hosts, who made us feel welcomed, cared for, and valued. They were very knowledgeable of the area as well, and we had a lot of success in following their recommendations for activities and eateries. The cozy little cabin rooms are just enough space, with comfortable accommodations (we stayed in the Moose Crossing room). The sleigh bed and gas fire kept us warm at night. We took a dip in the hot tub, which was so relaxing. The breakfast was delicious and the afternoon snack we got to enjoy with the hosts and other guests was a lot of fun. We did have to contend with quite a bit of snow during our stay, but they kept up with it as best as possible and we had no issues coming and going. I would highly recommend this
