Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas - Jambo House

I’ve visited Disney World with my family 13 times in the last decade, and this was our first stay at Animal Kingdom lodge. We booked two Savannah view deluxe studio villas for our family of 5 (one room for my wife and I and one room for my three teenaged kids.) The rooms have an occupancy of four adults each. Unfortunately, each has one queen bed and one pullout couch bed only. That would be fine except the pullout beds are completely unacceptable for anyone over the age of 10! I felt horrible having one of my teenaged kids sleep on it. The mattress was only 4 inches thick! Disney should be ashamed - these rooms need an update and need either two queen beds or Murphy beds like most other DVC rooms have now. Outstanding stay at Jambo house. Stayed in level 5 DVC floor (purchased the points and stay from David's Vacation rentals, as we are not disney timeshare owners) and had a lovely corner savannah view in room 5212. We saw a giraffe, zebras, an ostrich, and others- the animals are all quiet and the gamekeepers put food out so the animals come close for people in the rooms to see them. Some observations: -Room. The pullout couch for kids was surprisingly comfortable, just as comfortable as the main bed. Was fun to be on 5th floor because this is the only floor with the bridge to walk across the lobby. There is a thick black out curtain so you can keep room dark for naps in the day. -Food. We did daily app mobile orders for pick up at the Mara (a 5min walk). Highly recommend the beef stew and

WOW! If you have been considering staying here, do it! Our family stayed two nights and loved every moment of it. We were on the 5th floor, Savannah view. It is a great view, but next time I will request a lower floor to have a better view through the trees. There are many spots to see animals. The staff are exactly as you would expect from anyone working for Disney: kind, knowledgeable, kid- and family-friendly, accommodating, and genuinely fantastic people. You only live once, book your trip.

While this is labeled as a deluxe resort, I wouldn’t put it in the same category of The Grand Floridian, where we also stayed during the same trip. The Animal Kingdom lodge is a nice idea, but the rooms felt 3 stars at best and weren’t anything to write home about. We liked seeing the animals, but they weren’t around all the time. I also had no idea they weren’t part of the actual park. The restaurants here were the busiest restaurants I’ve seen while staying at deluxe Disney resorts. The quick service place was so packed, especially at breakfast we didn’t even bother to wait in line to order hot food and just got cereal and muffins. Also very noisy. The lobby is probably the fanciest part of the hotel. Overall, you don’t feel you’re at a Disney resort, as there is very minimal theming

This bad experience surprised me as 99% of the reviews are very positive. My family and I visited animal kingdom on February 9th. We went to the Jambo house Mara cafeteria for supper. Out of 12 people, 3 ate the pulled pork sandwich and only those three were very ill that night. We deduced that there had been something wrong with the pork that day. So please be careful! Apart from that everything was pleasant. Hopefully it’s an isolated unfortunate incident.
